March 3, 2024The village is located on a flat patch of the southern coastal plain, 31 kilometers from Gaza at an average elevation of 100 meters above sea level. It contained ancient archaeological sites including building foundations and pottery columns. During the British Mandate period, a military base was established near it. In 1945, the village’s population reached 970 people, distributed over 140 brick houses. The residents depended mainly on agriculture, and the neighboring village of Faluja was considered the destination for the villagers to obtain health and administrative services.
Displacement
The village was occupied during the operations of the Givati Brigade on the southern front on July 8-18, 1948, when orders were issued to expel civilians.
Colonization
The colony of (Zvdiel) was established in 1950 on the village lands. The colony of (Aluma) in 1965, while the colony of (Kommiut) is not located on the village lands but in its vicinity to the northwest, and the same applies to the colony of (Rafaha) which was established in 1953 west of the site on the lands of the village of Kartia.
The village today
A forest planted by the Israelis covers part of the site, and the rubble of houses is spread among the trees, and sycamore trees and cactus grow in the area, while the neighboring lands are cultivated, and the military airport built by the British is still in use.
